Studio Log 260802
//45 DAYS TILL OPENING
started the day very late with researching solutions for testing the hanging rods here at the studio.
went by hidden grounds to get some coffee and work on grants. it’s been the one way i can focus on these tasks without getting distracted.
spent the evening building a new sensor box. i’d modeled it last night (or was it the night before?) so i had the print. soldering the tight connections took much longer today and im chalking it up to lack of sleep.
but i had a 3 sensor box ready to use, complete with the wago levers, grounding, and the mounting keyholes.
i took a break - had dinner and went to shoot some pool.
got back around midnight and started rigging up the rods. at first i used a twine and that was a bad idea. the sag was ridiculous. but since this was just a bench test, i went with it.
hung a couple of rods, wired everything up - and it works! there is no cross talk, proximity works, touch works. it’s such a nice feeling when the scale up works.
thinking how the first box took me much longer, not to mention all the hours spent fine tuning the coding and exposing as many control parameters - the result being that building a whole box to test from scratch took only a couple of hours and fine tuning it took just a few minutes.
columns tested. rods tested. so far so good.
i also got the dmx pinspot in the mail today. it could work - but not for the purpose i had in mind. they’re also the cheapest variety so no harm no foul. just gonna get a diff one to suit my needs.
i want to be done with all the builds by mid august. which means i gotta get started on the altar soon. and stop procrastinating and order all the build materials - my studio is gonna be overwhelmed with conduits and concrete, and i’ll have to pay shipping (as much as i love public transit god i miss having a car sometimes) but that’s the next steps for this week.
